the peace of perseverance

Perseverence can be The Worst, you know? I don't feel like persevering most days.

That entangling sin? I like it. That's why it sticks. Yeah, it makes me miserable, sharp, and ugly, but there's security there, and don't we like it safe and comfortable?

Perseverance means discipline. Commitment. Tightening up. Letting go. Getting down to business.

Actually running the race.

Me? I like to theorize. Research. Consider. Criticize. Couch.

But God says, GO. Rid yourselves of all that hinders.

Pack light.

Fix your eyes. Focus your hearts.

For joy. For pain.

For Jesus. For us.

For discipline. For righteousness.

For peace.

Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart...

No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. (Heb 12:1-3, 11)
